Uniform Revolution

For years uniforms have been designed using the same standards. Basic colors and stripes with the occasional graphic. But for the most part, the "cut" of the uniform has dictated the design style.

At Wicked 6 Sports, we are pushing uniform design to a new level. Just as we have all seen in the NFL, Motocross and other sports, bold, colorful designs that go beyond the seams are becoming more popular. We are revolutionizing the sports of lacrosse and volleyball by pushing these very limits, while maintaining the integrity and history of each sport.

We offer free logo design with your order as well as a free custom design. What do you have to lose, besides your past view of how uniforms looked? Give us a try today!

Uniform Colors DO Make A Difference!

At a youth soccer game recently, I noticed that the kids in black uniforms looked more intimidating than those wearing light blue. It turns out this gut reaction may have a basis in science, but surprisingly, not in favor of the team you might think.
A new study published in the latest Journal of Social Psychology and Personality Science shows that National Hockey League (NHL) teams who wear darker colors, especially black, are viewed as more being more aggressive. Consequently, they end up being penalized at a higher rate than their opponents.
Lead author of the study, Gregory Webster of the University of Florida, Gainesville, analyzed about 50,000 NHL games that were played over the last 25 years. "Teams that wore black jerseys were penalized more, significantly more, than teams wearing other colored jerseys," he told National Public Radio.
While there may be other reasons that players wearing darker colors are sent to the penalty box more frequently, such as black showing up more clearly against the ice, Webster thinks the discrepancy has more to do with our culture's designation of white as the color of good and black as the color of evil. "There is this very strong cultural association that comes through in how we think about colors in terms of white being associated with good and black with bad," Webster explained. "Many of us are raised from childhood with some of these associations. And over time, we develop a kind of cognitive bias. That's been shown time and time again in social psychology."
An older study by the National Football League came up with similar results. Teams that switched from a white jersey to a dark jersey immediately experienced an increase in penalties. Researchers attributed the uptick to both the attitudes of the referees as well as the players' self-perception and theorized that individual players actually acted more violently when wearing different color jerseys.
While dark colors may influence the referee negatively, white isn't necessarily the color that wins the most overall. National Geographic reports that if you are going for the gold, the color to choose is actually red. When two athletes or teams are equally matched, red has a quantifiable edge. In nature, red signifies dominance and male testosterone. Researchers speculate that, given the popularity of red uniforms (not to mention red power ties), humans unconsciously intuit its advantage.

Head Games

There is a large mental component to any sport. That starts with feeling special the moment you take the field. And a new custom uniform design from Wicked 6 Sports will do the trick. Recently, one of our customers got back to us to tell us about the first game they played in their new Wicked 6 design.

The coach called, literally out of breath excited. He told us as his team first faced the opponent, you could literally see the faces of the players on the other side drop. "The fear was obvious. I mean you could see these guys looking hard at our team and then back at each other as if to say, holy cow, these guys have it going on, this is going to be a long day." Our tagline says, look better, play better, it's science. Well in fact it is. And this team with our new designs went on to dominate and win.

Never under estimate the power of a psychological advantage.

It's real.

Wicked Sick Time In Philly!

Okay, our first lacrosse convention and we loved it! We met some incredible people, companies, coaches and players from all over America! And since it was our first show, obviously our booth was...to say the least...a joke! But that didn't seem to bother the hundreds of people who came by, met us and purchased our gear! (Next year, look for us under the Wicked booth space tent!)

So, what came of it? Tons of orders, tons of quotes from great teams all over, networking, partnerships, new retail opportunities...you name it. We left with our heads spinning over the possibilities, and we look forward to delivering the best product we can to all of you who follow and participate in this great sport. We'd also like to personally thank the folks at Inside Lacrosse, US Lacrosse, In Lax We Trust, Head Wrapz, The Sock Guys and so many more companies and people who took the time to recognize us and support what we are doing!

Here's to a great 2012 people....LAX on!

(PS. Special thanks to Con Bro Chill, aka. Connor Martin, for stopping by for a photo opp! The guys loved it!)

Beware The Honey Badger!

In a recent contest (of which we are still deciding who wins) one of the contestants suggested we create a LAX shorts theme around the viral video of "the honey badger" that is so popular. Well folks, we did it. Let us know what you think. These go into production before years end. Thanks to Brandon Whitt for this cool idea...

How To Dishonor A Sport, A School And Yourself Immediately.

As a Xavier Alumni, I look forward each year to the "Crosstown Shootout" between the Cincinnati Bearcats and Xavier. Two fine schools with rich histories of athletic performance in basketball. Both are typically ranked early in the season, and with Xavier, this is no exception getting off to a very hot start of wins. But apparently, earlier in the week, the "trash talk" began, and to the dismay of fans everywhere, culminated to nothing short of a barbaric brawl at the end of the game, certainly shaming each school on a national level. So much so, the fact that Xavier pounded them athletically was completely lost by the actions of the players during the final few seconds.

Coaches scramble during the post-game interviews to defend or "fix" what had happened, most likely because their jobs now lay in wait for potential termination. And while I feel the Cincinnati coach actually did a great job making his point, I can still only wonder what motivated him honestly to say what he did? What happened in 30 seconds will now not only mark these schools forever, it will mark the players as well. Sportsman-like conduct isn't just some fantasy saying to make us all feel good. It is a code of ethics, it is respect for the game itself, but more importantly...it is respect for yourself!

Heed what happened in your sport. Learn from this valuable display of childlike, gangster behavior. It was wrong on more levels than we have time to contemplate folks.

Sports Sponsorships

What constitutes a sports sponsorship? Companies do it to get their name "out there" in the area of interest. Most have complicated contracts, locking up athletes for years to represent their brand. But can they be simpler? Yes they can.

We are a new company. But that doesn't preclude us from being able to leverage the ability to have solid athletes promote us. But how? What do we have to offer?

I'll tell you.

Branding. Wicked 6 Sports has a cool, up and coming brand that lacrosse players appreciate and like. That means we have leverage. And that means we can ask athletes to take a chance with us. In return, we will provide them with some of our cool product that we have such confidence in. No matter what your age or level, you are marketable. Keep your eyes and ears open for companies like us.

After all, Nike had to start somewhere didn't they?
